“Connor, it’s time.” Abby states calmly.

 

“I’ve got water boiling, clean towels, newspaper…”

 

“Calm down. It’s a natural process that’s been happening since the beginning of time.”

 

“But...”

 

“This isn’t exactly my first you know. I know what to expect.”

 

“Then clue me in.” Connor looks to Abby for reassurance.

 

“Come here.” she gestures to a spot next to her, “And hold my hand.”

 

Together they peer into the box. The eggs are rocking and cracks are appearing. Nancy nudges one encouragingly and Sid looks around the box, ready to defend the nest. The first baby diictodon escapes its shell.
