For Abby
Staring into the beckoning light, cold fear rolled though his stomach. His heart pounded as he battled conflicting emotions, Becker's admonition to never enter and Abby's disappointment if he didn't. With the vision of Abby's face anchoring his courage he flexed his fingers, his goal barely an arm's length away.
Hand shaking, he reached into the light snatching the object, pulling it free. His exhalation of relief was quickly followed by a sigh of wretched disappointment. The cream cheese he'd tucked into the back of the laboratory refrigerator was a glorious shade of green.
Sorry Abs, Connor thought, no bagels tonight.
