A/N: For prompt #251 Sticks and Stones.
She heard it every time she came in to the ARC for a debriefing. The whispers dogged her every step, following her until she couldn’t escape it. Time and time again.
“Bitch.”
“Whore.”
“Temptress.”
“Traitor.”
“Black widow.”
Over and over again they spoke until she dreamed the words. Men, women, soldiers, scientists, they all said it, thinking that she couldn’t hear them. She always did though.
The only person who didn’t join in was Connor. He didn’t say anything at all.
Caroline could only hope the debriefings finished before the words broke her.
If Connor’s silence didn’t break her first.
