primeval100, Challenge #264 “Don’t leave me”. There are two drabbles under the cut, which are related but can be read alone, as well.
They were in no man’s land, without back up and the only weapon they had was Becker’s and they were out of ammo. Not far, they heard the bloodcurdling roar of a raptor.
Becker assured Jess they just had to wait and trust Connor to open a new anomaly for them to get back home. But Jess was tired, and there was no place to hide for long. Becker’s bloody wound was attracting the raptor wherever they went.
Suddenly, an anomaly miraculously opened right in front of them. But the raptor was there, as well. And Becker made a decision.
~~~~~
Besides fear of the raptor, the next thing Jess noticed was that she was pushed through the anomaly and landed safely in Abby’s arms.
“Becker!”
Jess turned to run back through the anomaly to get him, as well, but Abby held her back. And only seconds later, the anomaly closed.
Becker wasn’t there. And Jess didn’t know what had happened. Only then, it dawned on her that he gave his life for hers.
Silence. There was no goodbye, no last words, no last look. There had been no time.
“Don’t leave me,” Jess whispered, holding her stomach. “Don’t leave us.”
