Win or Lose

Title: Win or Lose
Word Count: 100
Rating: PG
Challenge: 279 - Winning
Characters/Pairing: Becker
Warnings: Mild references to character death
Spoilers: Mild spoilers for series 3

Becker learned early on the importance of winning.

"Second best is not good enough, Hilary," his father drilled into him. "Beckers are winners, always."

It didn’t matter if he was playing football with his friends or a board game with his sisters. The message was clear: he must win. Loss was not acceptable.

It was the motivation to win that allowed him to excel at Sandhurst, to earn the honours of becoming Captain in his early twenties.

Joining the ARC, he experienced much loss: of civilian lives, of friendship, of faith in humanity.

Becker no longer considered himself a winner.

Really nicely done - it reflects the changes in Becker in the later series.

Lovely drabble. Poor Becker, it rings very true to him. (Though we wouldn't have got all his S4 man pain without all the loss he experienced and Becker's man pain is a truly enjoyable thing to behold! *g*)

A very accurate take on Becker. Sad, but it certainly was true to his character. Very well done. :)
