The first time that Matt takes Emily driving through London she squeals like an excited child.

Pointing eagerly at Big Ben. “That was completed nine years before I came here.”

Gazing wide-eyed at the Houses of Parliament. “They were still new Matt.”

That's when she realises he has gone silent.

Gently she takes his hand. “What is it?”

Matt sighs. “All these structures..........in the future............my future................they're nothing but derelict ruins..........skeletal fossils.”

With infinite tenderness, she entwines their fingers. “Then let's meet halfway. We're here now in this time together. Ours to rebuild anew.”

And his answering smile is a promise.

Lovely drabble. Love the contrast of Emily's excitement of seeing the sights with Matt's sadness of them being ruined in the future, and her suggestion to just enjoy themselves in the moment.
