She was gathering wood for a fire when she saw it.
They had been stranded in the Cretaceous for nearly three months without a sign of one opening.
Excited, Abby dropped the firewood and raced back to the campsite. She shook Connor awake.
"It's here!"
But when they returned to the area, there was no sign of an anomaly.
They returned to the campsite, Abby becoming increasingly despondent. Maybe she’d just imagined it. She wanted to return home so badly that her mind was playing tricks on her.
She was beginning to lose hope that she'd ever see one again.
Title: Blast from the Past - Part 1
Word Count: 100
Rating: PG
Challenge: 300 - Picture Prompt
Characters/Pairing: Becker/Jess
Warnings/Spoilers: None.
Author's Notes: According to the Primeval Wiki, Becker was born in Hampshire. I used Wikipedia to look up Hampshire and New Forest. I apologize for any inaccuracies.
It had been a normal call-out as Jess dispatched the team to New Forest to lock the anomaly and check for any signs of a creature incursion.
She listened over the comm as Becker ordered his men to secure the area when she heard an unfamiliar female voice.
"Hilary? Is that you?"
It turns out she was a childhood friend of Becker’s, although from her flirty tone, it sounded like she had more than friendly feelings about him now.
Jess stewed in silence as they chatted. She suddenly wished the anomaly would open up again and swallow flirty girl whole.
Title: Blast from the Past - Part 2
Word Count: 100
Rating: PG
Challenge: 300 - Picture Prompt
Characters/Pairing: Becker/Jess
Warnings/Spoilers: None.
Author's Notes: See Part 1.
Becker was giving out orders as they secured the anomaly site when he heard a familiar voice.
"Hilary? Is that you?"
Half-surprised and half-mortified, he turned around to face Kate. They hadn't seen each other since primary school. She'd been his first proper crush, although she hadn't reciprocated his feelings at the time.
He made polite small talk, vaguely answering questions about what exactly he was doing there.
The sound of Jess's voice over the comm brought him back to the task at hand and he hastily bid Kate farewell.
Becker would have some explaining to do when he returned.
Title: Into the Unknown
Word Count: 100
Rating: PG
Challenge: 300 - Picture Prompt
Characters/Pairing: Emily, Ethan, Charlotte
Warnings/Spoilers: Spoilers for series 4.
Emily knew that Charlotte wouldn't make it much longer. Her fever hadn't gone down over the past few days, and her breathing became increasingly shallow and labored.
Emily did her best to care for her friend, making her as comfortable as possible while Ethan hovered anxiously. When another gateway appeared, he insisted that they go through in the hopes of finding a cure.
The rest of the tribe refused, sticking to their rules. Emily knew they were right, but Ethan was determined, and she wouldn't abandon Charlotte now.
She stepped into the unknown, ready to face whatever consequences lie ahead.
