Title: Confusion

Characters: Connor, Jenny
Connor frowned at the detector in his hand. He tapped it gently and fiddled with a dial. Then he looked up and turned in a circle. He checked the device again. He stared into the sky, squinting.
“I don’t get it,” he said. “The detector is definitely working and we are definitely in the right place. It should be here. I should be standing right on top... of... it…” He trailed off, looking at his feet.
Specifically the grass under his feet. The ground.
“Oh.”
Connor looked at Jenny sheepishly. “Do you know anyone who owns an excavator?”
Jenny sighed.

Character: Ryan
Ryan stared at what he had just tripped over. It was a device. A computerized device. A computerized device in the Permian era.
Someone else was here. Or had been here. He picked up the device and turned in over in his hands. It looked like it was for tracking something. Anomalies perhaps? Had a team from the Home Office come past? Or Helen? Or was there someone else that knew about the anomalies?
He scanned the ground. Tracks. Human shaped footprints.
He started to follow them. He might be able to get home. Or at least have human company.
