When Lester informed the team that the Minister would be hosting a gala in honour of the ARC, Becker rolled his eyes. Being stuffed in a tuxedo and making conversation with mindless bureaucrats was not his idea of fun.

Jess had dropped not-so-subtle hints for Becker to ask her as his date for weeks, but he wavered. He finally gathered his nerve the day before, casually asking Jess what time he should pick her up.

She smiled sheepishly. “I’m sorry, I already promised Haken I’d go with him.”

Becker tried to hide his disappointment. His window of opportunity had closed.
