Beginnings
"It's not as though the Forest of Dean is far away, though," Connor coaxed.
Stephen straightened up and turned to look at Nick, who was staring at him. After a quick sigh, he said, "If we leave now, we could be there by lunch."
Nick started to reply, then shook his head. "Nah, Stephen. It's been eight years. Any sign of her would be long gone. And if there's some monster in the Forest, it would have killed her years ago."
Stephen sat up in bed, tears in his eyes. He wished every morning that his dream had been true.
