A Language of Their Own
Of the useless things Mother insisted she learn floriography had seemed the most trivial.
Yet, now she found comfort twisting silken ribbon around two small bouquets. Aster, red Canterbury bells, and acacia spoke of love, delphinium, the ability to transcend space and time. How appropriate, she thought.
Gently she touched Jess on the shoulder rousing her from her thoughts. The girl looked up. Jess's eyes like her own, were red rimmed from crying. Emily solemnly took her hand. Together they entered the cemetery, to kneel by two silent gravestones.
Marigolds bloomed at the gravesides, the silent heralds of eternal grief.
