Fitting really since Tom has just returned from another overseas stint.

Back now to work alongside Becker at the ARC.

It’s Diamond Jubilee season.

So fireworks galore.

Ah…………perfection:

Champagne-sweet kisses.

Tom’s dazzling smile.

Then a riotous rainbow of colours bursts against the night-sky.

“Isn’t that…….” But Stephen is speaking to empty air.

He finds Tom crouched behind the sofa, sobbing.

“I’m sorry………sorry………there was an explosion…………in the desert………children……blood………I……”

Stephen’s whisper is a tender pledge.

“Gently love…….it’ll be alright………we’re here………..together……….for always…..”

Tom leans into Stephen’s warmth, feeling the first tentative flutters of a fledgling peace.
